Avril Belfon, Government Archivist, is the new President of the Caribbean Branch of the International Council on Archives (CARBICA). She was elected at the CARBICA XI Conference and General Assembly held from 25-28 March 2019 in Paramaribo, Suriname and will serve a four-year term. She was the former Vice President and Interim Treasurer.
Among the aims of CARBICA is to strengthen relations and foster collaboration between institutions and individuals concerned with the custody, organization and administration of archives in the Caribbean area. National Archivists typically serve on the executive of CARBICA.
The International Council on Archives is dedicated to the effective management of records and the preservation, care and use of the world's archival heritage through its representation of records and archive professionals across the globe. It works closely with UNESCO.
