The National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago hosted the launch of Michael Anthony’s latest publication “A History of Trinidad and Tobago in the 20th Century, Volume Two, 1926-1939” on 12 December 2018 at the National Archives. The launch was held in collaboration with Nigel Khan Booksellers Ltd and Office Authority Ltd.
The publication is the 34th book to be published by Michael Anthony, eminent author and historian, and is a continuation of Volume One, published in 2010. It covers 14 years highlighting events year by year which he found to be important, interesting and sometimes just amusing. His sources seem to originate from the two daily newspapers of the time – The Trinidad Guardian and the Port of Spain Gazette, according to Professor Emerita, Bridget Brereton, who reviewed his publication at the launch.
Invited guests were treated to the performance of “The Rose of Mayaro” composed by Michael Anthony and sung by his niece, Christina Lemessey.
In 1979 Michael Anthony was awarded the Hummingbird Gold Medal for his contribution to literature. In 2003 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies, and in 2012 he was awarded a NALIS Lifetime Literary Award. The University of Trinidad and Tobago presented the “Distinguished Person” award to him in 2016.
In 2017, his novel “Green Days by the River” published in 1967 was immortalized in film and screened at various film festivals.
