The National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago, a Division of the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications, will stage its fifth annual Archives Awareness Week from 21-25 November, 2016. The event is a signature outreach event which aims to proactively engage with communities and the public to bring them closer to aspects of their history while promoting the value of records and archives and the role and function of the institution.
In commemoration of the International Decade for Persons of African Descent (2015-2024), and National African History Month, the Week will focus on the theme, "Our African Legacy: Roots and Routes." The thematic exhibition and panel discussion during the week will highlight the various journeys through which people of African descent came to Trinidad and Tobago, whether as enslaved or indentured workers, former soldiers or landowners.
Other activities include scheduled tours of the National Archives, games and prizes for primary and secondary students, a family history session, and viewing of films.
